One of the biggest achievements for companies is to achieve a total of a million users on their platform. Can you even imagine what 1 MILLION people look like?
ChatGPT did it in 2.5 months, Facebook ~10 months and Netflix 3.5 years. Most of the most successful tech startups we know about now manage tens of millions of users daily. The question is: Are you ready to onboard a million users?
Should You Even Want 1 Million?
The first question to ask is whether what you are building even needs 1 million active users. 1 million is a lot of users and 99.9% of Web-3 startups currently do not have even 10% of that number, but should they even have?
Not all startups are meant to scale to that level, because it won’t make sense.
We could see Metamask or a layer 1 blockchain reach 1 million users or even more, but for a startup that provides ledger infrastructure for other Web-3 startups, it would not make sense to even think near that goal. Possibly 1,000 clients would be enough to scale infinitely.
Scaling infinitely means being able to sustain growth naturally for a profit. If you are able to get the next customer at a cost lower than the total revenue generated by the customer, then you would be scaling infinitely.
Most of our clients, when they set their goals usually have the same endpoint of a million or hundreds of thousands of users, but this opens up the next question.
Can You Even Handle That Amount Of Customers?
Trust me when I say that 1 million users is not always a blessing. Most founders have no idea of the pressure and infrastructure needed to be handle such a huge amount of requests.
Onboarding 1 million users is not easy and if you are not prepared for it, you even could not reach 1% of that number.
It requires efficient database design, scalable and secure high-level architecture and very reliable and powerful servers to do the trick.
